Across the Netherlands, most adults believe volunteering is important, yet only 40% of adults volunteer annually, and monthly volunteers are even fewer in number.
This gap between intent to volunteer and action is not an opportunity shortage. Amsterdam alone has tens of thousands of volunteer listings. The real barrier is activation and retention. People care, but they lack a simple, repeatable pathway to show up consistently.
We are building a platform to make local volunteering addictive by reducing friction between volunteers and local organizations while designing for repeat participation from day one. By applying proven engagement systems such as streaks, social accountability, and lightweight commitments, we aim to turn volunteering from a one-off act into a recurring habit.
Like Duolingo for language learning or Strava for running, volunteering deserves the same level of intentional habit design. Indeed, the tools and design already exist. It is time to apply them to local community impact.
Please note: The road to revenue readiness lies in 3 key streams: a) selling the platform directly to non-profits as their Volunteer Management System, b) encouraging donations (of which a portion is allocated to maintaining the platform and c) charging a fee for volunteers that do not show up (similar to ClassPass)
